Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese co-created the German science fiction thriller streaming television series Dark. From 2017 until 2020, it aired for three seasons. Dark follows characters from the fictional German village of Winden as they seek the truth in the aftermath of a child's disappearance. They investigate the ties between four separated families in order to uncover a dangerous time travel plot that spans multiple generations. The series delves at the existential implications of time and how it affects human nature. It stars Louis Hofmann, Julika Jenkins, Andreas Pietschmann, Maja Schöne, Lisa Vicari, Lisa Kreuzer, Dietrich Hollinderbäumer, Jördis Triebel, and Oliver Masucci in an ensemble cast.

Dark premiered on Netflix on December 1, 2017, and the second season was released on June 21, 2019. The third and final season premiered on June 27, 2020.

Dark gained great accolades for its tone, visuals, performance, casting, musical composition, and narrative ambition and intricacy. Dark was named the 58th best TV series of the twenty-first century by BBC Culture.
