Quantum Leap is a five-season American science-fiction television series developed by Donald P. Bellisario that ran on NBC from March 25, 1989 until May 5, 1993. Scott Bakula plays Dr. Sam Beckett, a physicist who spontaneously leaps through spacetime during time travel experiments, momentarily taking the place of other individuals to repair what he continually determines to be historical blunders. Admiral Al Calavicci, Sam's womanizing, cigar-smoking buddy and best friend, appears to him as a hologram and researches and moulds his opinions on the past, is played by Dean Stockwell.
The series incorporates elements of comedy, drama, romance, social commentary, and science fiction. In 2007, it was named 19th on TV Guide's list of the "Top Cult Shows Ever."
