About TTI Dimensions

Dimensions are a way of creating member-run subcommunities within TTI. Many of our users have some awesome interests or projects they want to show off, so Dimensions are meant to give you a space to deep-dive into a niche and make part of TTI your own.

Let's take a look at a few screenshots, and then go over what Dimensions are capable of:

There's a lot to digest there! Let's go over the basic functionality.

Dimension Types

Four types of Dimensions are available:

  • Public Dimensions
Dimensions that anyone can see and participate in without joining.
  • Open Dimensions
Dimensions that anyone can see and join, but must be a member of to participate.
  • Closed Dimensions
Dimensions that anyone can see in the directory listing, but joining must be approved by a Dimension Leader or Dimension Moderator.
  • Private Dimension
Hidden Dimensions that do not show in public, and users must be invited by a Dimension Leader or Dimension Moderator

Some extra notes about Closed Dimensions

Non-members who view the Dimension will only content the Dimension owner has allowed (such as an information page). The owner of a closed Dimension can opt to have the club’s forums, calendar, pages, gallery and downloads be visible for all to see (despite the Dimension being set to closed).

For example, a closed Dimension leader could create a special landing page that’s viewable by members who have not yet joined, but the rest of the Dimension is closed. This might be useful as a means to encourage someone to join, share information that’s pertinent to those in and out of the Dimension or as a "how to get invited" tool.

Another example could be keeping the Dimension's forums visible for all, but keep the calendar and image gallery exclusive to members as an incentive to join.

Dimension Users

Each Dimension has three user levels:

  • Leader
A leader has all of the permissions of a moderator, but can add other moderators. They can also add content areas. The Dimension owner is automatically a leader.
  • Moderators
Moderators, as the name implies, have the ability to moderate content posted within the Dimension. Moderators can close and hide threads, and remove members from a Dimension.
  • Users
Anyone else that joins the Dimension.

For closed Dimensions, there's an approval process for users to join. Users can request to join and the request must be approved by a leader. Leaders get a notification when a user requests to join; the user gets a notification when their request is approved or denied.

Dimension Content

Dimension Leaders can add a variety of content areas to their Dimensions:

  • Forums
  • Blogs
  • Calendars
  • Galleries
  • Downloads
  • Pages

These all appear in search results and activity streams, just like the main TTI content. Members can follow them, embed links to them, and so on. If a user has permission to see a forum (for example) within a Dimension it will behave exactly like the main forums on TTI - and the same for all other kinds of content.

Each content area a leader adds can have a custom title, and will appear in the Dimension navigation. This means, for example, that you can have multiple forums within a Dimension, and give each a different name.

Dimensions can also have a custom header image and icon.

Dimension Focus

When creating a Dimension, you may select a "focus", which members can use to get a sense of what its purpose is. Current focus options are:

  • Community
  • Project
  • Blog
  • Other

Additional focus options may be added in the future.

Dimension-Specific Rules

As long as your Dimension adheres to the overall TTI content policy, you are encouraged to run your Dimension YOUR way. Each Dimension can have the rules and terms you decide, editable from the Dimension settings dialog.
