It's all how you look at it.
In one way; humans ... better yet all biological life is the perfect "robot"...a biological one at that...I can't help when thinking of nanotech...think of what's already existing performing functions at a biological lvl (IE; microsopic life forms)
Think about it the more we advance in terms of mechanics, robots, processing, artificial life...what are we truly striving for but a recreation of biological life simply with the sciences and tools we have available at the 'time'
In that context, the matrix already exists... if we can make mathematical forumlas to explain how biological life 'functions' and strive to evolve it to the point of quantum mechanics...again it's how we look at it.
